Contemporary visual artist and sculptor, Dave Edwards was born in Colombo, Sri Lanka in 1966. He is part of the Eurasian ethnic group – known in Sri Lanka as ‘Burghers‘. Themes of migration, belonging and ‘the other’ recur in his work.

Edwards says, ‘Sometimes the story is in the material as well as the archetype. I am interested in that I’ve always felt connected and unconnected simultaneously and the insight this perspective offers. Of course, it’s about belonging – I have a foot in both camps, and not one truly in either, so maybe I have something to add.’

Emigrating as a small child to the UK, the family settled in the North East of England. After a Foundation in Art and Design at the Manchester School of Art 1984 he studied Fine Art at Reading University, graduating in 1989. Following a career in the commercial world at the age of 50 he decided to devote himself more fully to creating paintings and sculpture.

Edwards lives outside London and keeps a studio nearby.
